"Technical Difficulties" the JHMS Lego Robotics Team competes & wins in Wyoming Competition
Team working togetherOn Saturday, Dec 5th, the JHMS Lego Robotics team, "Technical Difficulties," won second place in the all-around Championship Award, competing with 51 other teams! Our team was just one step away from from traveling to the national competition in Atlanta. Congratulations to the members of our Lego team for all their hardwork and persistence throughout the competitive season. JHMS is proud to have your representation in Wyoming.

It is with great pride and happiness that I announce our LEGO robotic team's  championship performance at the FLL First Lego League State Competition in Casper yesterday. Our team won one of the most prestigious awards given at FLL competitions, second place Champions Award! Dubois will take their team to nationals as first-place champion winners. Since this is our third year of competition, we are delighted with our team's amazing performance at the marathon meet against 50 other teams this year.

The US First website describes the Champion Award in the following manner:
"The Champion's award is the most prestigious award that a team can win. It celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission and FLL Core Values. A champion is someone who passionately supports a cause. For FLL, our champions passionately inspire and motivate others about the excitement of science and technology, solving problems, working as a team, and demonstrating respect and gracious professionalism."

This year's SMARTMOVE theme involved transportation issues. Our students designed, built, and programmed a robot to perform transportation-related tasks, and they completed a research project about Teton Pass using a powerpoint presentation, as well as creating brochures with travel tips for tourists. The team plans to distribute the brochure to rental car companies and other tourism-related businesses in order to enhance safety on the pass. Our robotics club has met every week after school at JHMS, and is open to all students.

For our first two years, our robot performance ranked in the middle of 50 teams. The first year, we won third place "team spirit" award, and last year, we won third place in "research quality."

This year, our team ranked third in points for our robot performance! We were bumped to sixth due to other teams who tied for first and second point scores. We were the only team to have over 200 points on two runs, and the only team to use a particular strategy to straddle an obstacle on the mat. We held between second and third place for much of the robot performance competition (three rounds). We were also judged on teamwork, project presentation, and robot technical design sessions.
