Instructional Materials

To be college and career-ready, today's students require an education that goes far beyond what was needed by students in the past. All students must sharpen their math skills, deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts, and develop their ability to problem-solve, reason, and communicate. To achieve this, the JHMS Mathematics Department uses a variety of instructional resources and techniques. See the list of instructional materials and how they are utilized to gain a deeper understanding of what’s happening in JHMS math classrooms.

  • Pearson Systems of Courses (digital textbook used as primary instructional resource).

  • Rich Math Tasks (engaging math tasks taken from the work of Jo Boaler and other researched based sources).

  • Number Talks and Strings (used to build number sense and fluency from the work of Fosnot, Harris, and others).

  • Khan Academy (for developing math skills and procedural fluency). Follow this link for incoming 6th Grade summer work.
